M365 Frequently Asked Questions
M365 licenses can be a point of confusion for many administrators. This article will cover some frequently asked questions we receive about M365.
1. What is the difference between O365 and M365 licenses?
M365 licenses are very similar to O365 licenses except M365 includes the rights to a Windows 10 Pro upgrade (the machine must have a Windows Pro version to utilize the upgrade). Many of the other features included in O365 licenses will be included in M365 licenses as well. We recommend discussing your business needs with our Sales team to determine which licenses are right for you.
2. What are the differences between M365 Business and M365 E3?
M365 Business is geared toward small to medium-sized businesses that have fewer than 300 users. M365 Business includes a simplified management console and does not require syncing with a local active directory.
M365 Enterprise is geared toward larger businesses that have over 300 users. M365 Enterprise offers increased levels of compliance and security management over M365 Business but does require advanced administration and syncing with a local active directory. Additional tools included with M365 Enterprise are Business Intelligence and Analytics.

3. Does M365 give us a free Windows 10 install?
An M365 license allows you to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro as long as the machine already has Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 Pro. If the machine does not currently have an OS or a Windows Pro version you must first purchase a Windows Pro license separately before you can fully utilize M365 features.
4. Can I use M365 to install Windows on imaged machines?
An M365 license allows you to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro as long as the machine already has Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 Pro. For imaged machines you would need to purchase and install a Windows Pro license separately for each machine before you can fully utilize M365.
5. How do I upgrade my machine to Windows 10 Pro with the M365 license?
As long as you have a pro version of Windows on the machine you can use the steps in the following article to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro Creators Update.

6. Can we apply M365 licenses to just some of our users?
Yes, you can have multiple license types on your tenant so you can choose which users have M365 based on your business needs. NOTE: Standardizing licenses in your IT environment will typically reduce maintenance and costs over time so we recommend applying the same licenses to all users when possible.
7. What are the system requirements for M365?
Since the main feature of M365 is the Windows 10 Pro upgrade you'll want to be sure that your machines are running Windows 7 Pro or later. Certain Windows 10 features such as Cortana, Windows Hello, and multitouch require specific hardware that is only available on newer PCs as well.
